If you are arriving via the Tampa International Airport and will need to take a shuttle to your hotel, the following list provides a handful of companies to choose from.

United Cab: 813-253-2424
Yellow Cab: 813-253-0121
Super Shuttle: 727-572-1111 or 800-282-6817; www.supershuttle.com. Offers 1-way and round-trip fares

A 1-way taxi will run approximately $15-$25 if you are bound for the Tampa Bay area, and $35-$60 (possibly more) if you’re headed to the Gulf Coast. Shuttle services tend to run a bit less.

For additional visitor information on the Tampa or coastal areas, the sites listed below offer some of the most helpful and useful information available.

As I said, driving times can be very misleading in and around the Tampa and St. Pete area. What seems on a map as if it should take only a few minuets can take a half hour, sometimes more. It all depends on where you are, where you’re going, and the time of day you’re traveling. Quitting-time traffic can be unbearable right in and around Tampa, and because there are limited entry points to the barrier islands (and the beaches), they too can jam up quickly, extending your driving time almost exponentially.

Driving from Orlando to the Busch Gardens area generally takes about 1 1/2 hours. If you are heading all the way to the beaches (St. Pete’s or Clearwater Beach, in particular), the drive can take more than 2 hours--more on a busy holiday or weekend.

Just So You Know
Baby’s Away has a location right in the Tampa/St. Pete area (in addition to the Orlando location). Cribs, strollers, high chairs and swings (along with plenty of other necessities) are available to rent. If you don’t want to have to carry all of your own gear with you, especially if you are flying, this service can be most helpful when you’re traveling with very young children.
